Question: “I am hosting a Bridal Shower for my best friends daughter. The bride to be would prefer cash instead of gifts. The guests come from varying incomes. What would be an appropriate way to word something in this direction for the bridal shower invite?”

Asking for cash is always a little bit tricky because you don’t want to come across in the wrong way and sound selfish or put people off from coming altogether. Some people like to use poems like the one I found below:

“If you were thinking of giving a gift, to help us on our way.
A gift of cash towards our house, would really make our day.
However, if you prefer to purchase a gift, feel free to surprise us in your own way.”

Keep in mind that the bridal shower was created for the women to get together and “shower” the bride with well wishes and gifts for herself or future home. While I think most people will want to give a gift of some sort, the important thing you want to remember is you don’t want to make it look like you expect a gift, especially if the person you are inviting may not be able to afford it because you don’t want to offend or alienate anyone.

The important part of any shower is not so much about the gifts you receive but rather the time you spend with friends and family who you are close with and are a special part of your life.
